Let There Be Light

Last weekend I went to the Normann Copenhagen flagship store in Østerbro to pick up a new lamp for our bedroom. I've seen this Norm 06 lamp in a few places and I thought it would look great in our bedroom with our pastel mint wall. Luckily the boyfriend was on board with me on this one!

Although the lamp is not that expensive, it is also not the best quality. At least not the quality I expected from Normann. The lamp looks wonderful when it is all put together, but you have to be incredibly careful when assembling it. I found that some of the plastic started tearing in certain spots and I had to use some washi tape to secure and strengthen it. Luckily, you can't see the spots where I've used tape but if there are larger tears then you may have a problem. I also managed to get a number of little cuts on my hands from assembling the lamp. So I guess the plastic is not very strong but incredibly sharp! 

The lamp did turn out the way I had hoped and it looks like an upside down flower hanging over our bed in our room. I like that it is white so it blends into the ceiling and I love the simple lines that it has. The design and the look of the Norm 06 lamp is perfect. I just wish the quality was a bit better. But I'm loving the way it adds to our room and am hoping it will last for a few years! 

Sweet Miss Etoile

I really like Miss Etoile's products. Every time I am on the home and kitchen floor of Magasin, I stop and spend a few minutes at the Miss Etoile section. Miss Etoile is a Danish home decor, crafts, and accessory company. I especially love their sweet and whimsical teacups and plates. I'm totally wishing for one of the mugs with the eyes on them with the handle as the nose.

Miss Etoile had a lagersalg/outlet sale this week and I picked up a little dish that I've had my eye on and a little butter plate as well as two round paper lanterns. I could have bought more (there were teacups and bowls and some home decor items) but I thought the boyfriend wouldn't have liked so much of it because Miss Etoile's products are really girly, so I passed on a lot of things. But then I came home and showed him their website and he said he liked them! So maybe next time?

I will be using this little Bon Appetit dish for little sweets. I think they would be perfect for lining up a row of homemade macarons! And this little butter dish with the lid is just adorable. I can't wait to have people over for brunch and use it! Party decor is generally pretty expensive here in Copenhagen. Miss Etoile does sell paper lanterns, tissue paper pom poms/flowers, and crepe paper decorations as well but I think they are a little overpriced in the stores. But, because I picked everything up at the lagersalg, I only spent 50kr/$9! So next time Miss Etoile has another lagersalg, I am definitely picking up some teacups and other pretty serving ware!

Weekend Find

While I was out in the city on Saturday, I went into the Hay shop on Pilestræde, mostly because I've been wanting to pick up some coral ribbon they have (which I think is out of stock now). Instead of walking out with some ribbon, I came home with five packs of their Flap envelopes in various sizes.

The envelopes are made out of a thick and sturdy paper and all of the envelopes have velcro on the inside to hold the flaps down. They are normally 39kr per package, with three envelopes in each. But when I stumbled upon them this weekend, I got five packs for 49kr. Amazing! I stood there for quite a long time picking envelope colors and sizes. You guys know I love boxes and gift wrap, so this was quite the find!

And of course I had to use one of the envelopes right away!

The Boyfriend + 12 + Cupcakes + Krenit + This Week's Flowers

(The boyfriend had his Master's thesis defense yesterday so this post is a mish mash of many things that revolve around that.)

The boyfriend has been doing his Master's in Economics and Finance for the last 2 years and yesterday, he and his thesis partner did their defenses and they got the highest mark! 12's! He has worked really hard and juggled a lot of things including school, work, and me! His parents, brother, and I were at the school to celebrate with him right after his defense and it was so great to see how everyone reacted when he told us his grade. His parents are amazing and they were so incredibly happy and proud of him.

After celebrating at school for a bit and then going out for lunch, we invited our friend/the boyfriend's thesis partner and his girlfriend, and a bunch of their good friends over to our apartment. And of course, I had to make cupcakes to celebrate! I bought a Valhrona cocoa powder on the weekend and used it in my usual chocolate cake recipe and it tastes even more amazing! The flavor is so much better than the regular cocoa powder I use. However, I wouldn't expect less from the Valhrona cocoa powder as it costs 3 times the price of the other cocoa powder I use! (Side note, there is zero choice here in terms of cocoa powder. All the grocery stores sell the same generic cocoa powder, so when I saw the Valhrona one available at one of the higher end grocery stores, I had to try it out and taste the difference!) The chocolate cupcakes were topped with peanut butter frosting and some chocolate flakes. They were delicious!

As I mentioned, the boyfriend's family came to celebrate yesterday and his parents gave him a number
of graduation presents. His mom is so sweet and spoils all of us and well, yesterday, they really outdid themselves. The boyfriend (and I ;)) got 6 Krenit bowls from Normann in lime green and baby blue. They are gorgeous and a Danish classic. You can read more about the Krenit bowls here. We love them!

On Monday, I went into town to my favorite flower store and bought some hydrangeas, calla lillies, and fillers for a graduation bouquet for the boyfriend. The hydrangeas didn't last very long as two of them wilted yesterday and the rest of them followed suit today so I took them out. However, you can see the hydrangeas and the full arrangement in the photo with the cupcakes.
