Our Living Room

We got a Christmas tree today and while our living room was looking nice and tidy, I took a few photos of our place. This is where we spend the most time when we are home and I think it is my favorite room in our apartment. I mean, why else would it be called the living room? I don't really know what my home decor/interior style was before moving to Copenhagen. I was living at home and then when I was living in Sweden, I lived mostly in student apartments or places I had sublet from other people. I've really enjoyed having this blank canvas of an apartment to work with!

I think the living room will continue to change in the next year or two. A lot of the furniture, like the couch, the swivel chairs, and the coffee table are from the fiance's parents and we will eventually replace them. We are couch hunting and we've thought about getting a coffee table from Hay but I think we will just take our time and see what we like and what fits in here. My favorite things in this room are our customized Ikea shelves, the fireplace, our strand of lights, and our framed prints. Its been fun seeing our ideas for this room come to life, and for things to actually work out as well!

So yeah! This our living room with a few Christmas decorations added to it. It's the most decorated room in our place right now but at the same time it isn't so in your face. I think I decorated much more last year at our previous apartment. And this is my first real Christmas tree! We've always had a fake one at home so it was fun going out to buy our tree this morning. I'll write more about where we got it in a day or two. For now, have a great Saturday!

Let There Be Light

Last weekend I went to the Normann Copenhagen flagship store in Østerbro to pick up a new lamp for our bedroom. I've seen this Norm 06 lamp in a few places and I thought it would look great in our bedroom with our pastel mint wall. Luckily the boyfriend was on board with me on this one!

Although the lamp is not that expensive, it is also not the best quality. At least not the quality I expected from Normann. The lamp looks wonderful when it is all put together, but you have to be incredibly careful when assembling it. I found that some of the plastic started tearing in certain spots and I had to use some washi tape to secure and strengthen it. Luckily, you can't see the spots where I've used tape but if there are larger tears then you may have a problem. I also managed to get a number of little cuts on my hands from assembling the lamp. So I guess the plastic is not very strong but incredibly sharp! 

The lamp did turn out the way I had hoped and it looks like an upside down flower hanging over our bed in our room. I like that it is white so it blends into the ceiling and I love the simple lines that it has. The design and the look of the Norm 06 lamp is perfect. I just wish the quality was a bit better. But I'm loving the way it adds to our room and am hoping it will last for a few years! 

Apartment Dreams

We are looking for a new place to live right now as we will be moving out of our current apartment in a few months. We have lived here since July, and I really like the apartment and find myself comparing the new places we look at to this one. I like that our current apartment has a separate dining room and living room, it is in a great location, and it has pretty details that I'm particularly fond of like crown molding and stucco pieces on the ceiling for chandeliers and lamps. We are looking for a new apartment with a certain budget in mind so we probably will not get everything that we like and want. We might not get that separate dining room, the apartment might be a few square meters smaller than where we are now, or we might have to settle for a closet sized bathroom and so on. But, I can always dream right?

I have a "hjem" board on Pinterest where I pin mostly dining rooms and kitchens that contain features that I like. According to the board, I really like wooden floors that are painted white. I like mix and match chairs around the dining table. Copper pendant lamps - yes please! And then there is my love for gallery walls and maybe book walls too? I guess this is more about how I would like to decorate than about the actual structure of an apartment.

Gallery Table

I really enjoy going to art galleries partly because I just love taking in and looking at the high walls arranged with different artwork in various frames and sizes and placed in specific ways. In the future, I would like to have some sort of gallery wall in my home.

As we are renting this apartment and don't really want to put a bunch of holes in the walls, we don't have a gallery wall. But lucky for us, we have a glass table with a full shelf underneath it so we have a gallery table! 

The gallery consists of different things that have some sort of meaning to the boyfriend and I. We have some photographs of the two of us, some with friends abroad and here in Copenhagen, and one with both sets of our parents in it. We also have two Ladurée boxes, some paper flowers, a postcard the boyfriend sent me from Berlin, a Obey print, this card from Oh My Deer that I framed, a lava rock, and a handmade card from a friend in France. My lomo camera, a little llama figure the boyfriend got from his grandma, and a porcelain origami swan from Bolia.com are also featured. My gold Hay scissors and feather pen are also permanent members of the gallery. Once in awhile I will switch out the postcards or the photos and add some new items, but this is basically how it has looked since we moved in.
